The two siblings were rescued by Magneto's new Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Over time, he became more arrogant because of his high speed powers and gained a taste for bullying others to prove his superiority over them (he teased the timid Shadowcat about her weight). He also displayed some serious personality flaws such as being dismissive to non-mutant ethnic groups and being somewhat selfish. On one occasion, he revealed that he only aided humans because he liked Wanda. Quicksilver continued to aid Magneto after his father left him, but later became convinced of the rightness of Magneto's actions after witnessing humans acting hateful and violent towards mutants.

  Quicksilver has been featured in many adaptations of Marvel comics to other media, such as animated television series (voiced by Rick Bennett) and video games (voiced by Tom Kenny). In 2006, he was ranked 293rd on Wizard magazine's list of the Top 200 Comic Book Characters of All Time. Quicksilver first appeared shortly in a cameo alongside Scarlet Witch in Giant-Size Avengers #4 (July 1975), which was scripted by Roy Thomas when the two characters were meant to be the offspring of criminal psychopath Dr. Fritz von Meyer. He was next mentioned in X-Men #63 (February 1976) and first appeared in X-Men #4, vol. 1 (March 1964), alive and well with no memory of his assumed death. In that issue, his powers are almost identical to those he has in the main Marvel universe; retained only for plot purposes as Chris Claremont originally intended to have him remain powerless if not for editor Len Wein's intervention.

During an argument over leadership of the X-Men, Cyclops sought to convince Quicksilver to return home with them but a Sentinel interrupted their conversation. As the X-Men fought it, Quicksilver grabbed his sister and fled into the sewer system where they were confronted by Juggernaut. The X-Men arrived and battled Juggernaut, who captured Quicksilver. Cyclops arrives with the power-dampening collar Magneto had used on him years earlier and placed it around his neck. He is reduced to normal human speed, allowing the X-Men to subdue him. Quicksilver realizes in horror that he was not even granted any super-speed during this fight.

In an issue of New Mutants later that year (January 1985), Colossus became possessed by the spirit of a fallen warrior and began acting as a dictator over Siberia with his sister under house arrest within their own home. When Storm contacted Magneto, he agreed to help her free her friends.

Pietro Maximoff is a mutant with the ability to move at superhuman speeds. Maximoff also possesses reflexes that are similarly enhanced and can move so fast he cannot be seen by the naked eye.

Pietro Maximoff was born in the Eastern European country of Sokovia. When he was a child, his parents took him to the United States on vacation. On that trip, while visiting the U.S., he and his family witnessed what would later be known as "the Battle of New York" between Tony Stark's team of superheroes and Loki's army of Chitauri during the 2012 Avengers conflict. The event inspired Maximoff to become a superhero himself when he grew up.

Despite having trouble controlling his powers as a child, Pietro joined the Sokovian police force at age 18 after graduating from high school. During a break-in attempt by bank robbers at one point, officers with guns were ordered to apprehend the criminals, however they failed due to Pietro's speed giving them trouble.
