Who Is Arnold
Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger is an Austrian-American actor, filmmaker and former professional bodybuilder. Schwarzenegger began weight training at the age of 15. In 1969, he won the Mr. Universe title at the age of 20 and went on to win the 1970 Mr. Olympia contest that same year, giving him instant fame in bodybuilding and later Hollywood.
Schwarzenegger's roles include: Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator, Commando and Predator. He is culturally reputed for his political views as a self-proclaimed conservative Republican.
Schwarzenegger was born in Thal, Austria, a small town close to Graz, on July 30, 1947. His parents Gustav Schwarzenegger (1907–1972) and Aurelia Jadrny (1908–1998) married in 1938; the second of their three children, Arnold was born in 1947. Gustav had a preference for his elder son, Meinhard, over Arnold, resulting in frequent beatings dealt to the latter. Schwarzenegger developed a strong sense of inferiority growing up, as he received very little attention from his father.
Schwarzenegger's mother, Aurelia Jadrny Schwarzenegger (née Janice Mary Strickland; January 4, 1910 – April 27, 1998) was the daughter of a postal worker and an heiress to one of Austria's largest fortunes. She was the only child of Richard Anton Strickland (1878–1918) and Elisabeth Bahlmann. Schwarzenegger's maternal grandfather was a Bohemian immigrant who married into the Austro-Hungarian nobility, and the wife of his paternal grandfather also belonged to the Austrian nobility. The rest of Gustav's lineage on both sides is non-famous.
In 1967, Schwarzenegger graduated from a Roman Catholic private school, having attended for 10 years. He later enrolled in the University of Wisconsin–Superior where he majored in business and economics. In 1968, Schwarzenegger moved to Los Angeles, California. His first job was as a laborer on the assembly line at the American Motors Corporation (AMC) plant. He worked long hours, including weekends.
Schwarzenegger's first short film was a 20-minute documentary called "Our Weightlifting Team" (1968), which he made for $430 as a present for his parents' 30th anniversary. His second film was a 110-minute documentary featuring Schwarzenegger himself, titled "Hercules in New York" (1969) and co-starring Vince Edwards.
In 1969, Schwarzenegger met former bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno at a YMCA and they became training partners. In 1974, he won his first major titles, Mr. Universe and the "Most Perfectly Developed Man in the World", at the age of 25. At 27, Schwarzenegger won the 1975 Mr. Olympia contest, despite being a new competitor and having what many regarded as an "unperfected" physique. He set a record by remaining undefeated for 12 years until 1987.
Schwarzenegger is considered among the greatest bodybuilders of all time as well as one of the most influential people in the sport. He has starred in many films, his most famous one being Conan the Barbarian with a film career total gross of over US$3 billion as of 2010. Schwarzenegger gained worldwide fame as a Hollywood action film icon.
