Aaliyah L. Collins, 20, was arrested last week on one count of murder in the homicide on Gabriel D. Akins. The incident took place outside a gas station in the 2600 block of West Fifth Avenue.

Mr. Akins was found dead inside his black 2006 Jeep after he crashed into the fence of a business across the street from the gas station.

A Lake Criminal Court magistrate entered a plea of not guilty for Collins on Friday. Collin's told the magistrate she plans to hire a private attorney and is also facing probation violations for previous conviction.

After Akins got into his Jeep, he was shot in the gas station parking lot. He tried to drive away at about midnight on January 22nd,but somebody found him and called the police. Detectives gathered surveillance videos from the crime scene and found that he had been shot before he could leave the gas station.

Two men who accompanied Collins to the gas station were not named in court records.

Kaithlin showed the officer a time-stamped video that showed her arriving at the gas station and one of the tires on the car.

Two men got out of her car, and she parked it next to the Jeep.

One man is tall and thin with a silver jacket, black face mask, and black pants. The other man is short and skinny with a black sweatshirt with its hood up and face mask.

Collins wore red pants and a black and white jacket with an 8 ball on the back. He got out of the Malibu before returning to the driver's seat.

The two men walked around the gas station in opposite directions, meeting at the propane cage on the perimeter. One of them went inside while the other patrolled outside. Across the street on a private property, six cameras recorded their movements in real time.

Akins was driving away before the victim could grab his things. The man pulled out a black gun and shot into the back of their car in order to get what he wanted.

As the Jeep was driving, it veered to one side before traveling north on Fifth Avenue, hitting a fence.

Collins drove east on Wabash Avenue with her headlights off.

Police used license plate reader system to discover the identity of Collins. When they searched her car, they found evidence that she purchased a drink at a Hammond bar shortly after Akins was killed.
