The Nightwing costume is of a black, yellow and blue color scheme. It has long sleeves with three-quarter length legs in red and black, and it contains his symbol on the front. The top matches the back, but is open at the front to signify aerial acrobatics. He also wears a utility belt around his waist to carry items such as his grapple gun.

Nightwing has a number of gadgets that he uses in his crime fighting with many references to birds (his favorite) which all have different functions. Some, like the Birdarang for instance, are weapons used for combat while others like the Wingsuit allow him to move through the air quickly and efficiently.

As a superhero, Nightwing fights crime. He has had numerous encounters with the super-villain known as 'Hush' over the years and is often seen alongside Batman, Superman and The Flash when fighting criminals and super villains across America. He also assists in training other superheroes who are new to the field such as Robin, Batgirl and Green Arrow.

In regards to personality, Nightwing is strong-willed and street smart. He is a confident leader who likes to get the job done as quickly as possible while also making sure that he keeps all of his teammates safe from harm. He has very little patience for laziness or recklessness on the part of his comrades.

His favourite food is chocolate and he has a good friendship with another member of the superhero community, Barbara Gordon alias Batgirl (who is also a computer expert), as they were partners as young crime fighters in Gotham City. He has since had a romantic relationship with her ex-girlfriend, Starfire from DC comics' Teen Titans comic book series.

Growing up, Nightwing did not want to be a superhero but was pushed into the role due to his special skills and powers. From a young age he trained as an acrobat with Batman and Robin (who would later become his sidekick) and took part in numerous activities together such as team sports, swimming lessons and academic lessons.

His parents were killed in a tragic circus accident when he was 8 and Batman took him under his wing, raising him as a crime-fighting partner who had to balance the need for adventure with schoolwork and family life. This created a love/hate relationship between the two of them due to Batman's strict rules about safety and training along with his lack of parenting skills. Nightwing would eventually grow up to become Bruce Wayne's ward and become like a son to him, causing Batman to loosen his grip over the boy who was now legally an adult.

Nightwing is named after the bird due to his acrobatic skills, agility, fighting prowess and intelligence. He is not as well known as the Teen Titan group, such as Robin and Superboy, but has many of Batman's qualities if he was a few years younger.

As far as superpowers go, Nightwing possesses enhanced strength, endurance and agility which allows him to do handstands on walls with ease and he can make a long jump from one building to another whilst being in midair. He is also an expert marksman due to his one-on-one training with Batman, as well as proficient in martial arts and can do flips, cartwheels and backflips at will.

Like Batman, Nightwing's greatest asset is his intelligence which allows him to design gadgets, create elaborate plans and escape dangerous situations.
Among the heroes who help to keep civilians safe from harm is Nightwing. He uses his skills and experience as a former sidekick to Batman (in fact he was Robin at one point) in order to protect the city of Bludhaven using all of his skills and abilities acquired throughout his life.
