Real planes, real overloads": how Top Gun: Maverick was filmed with Tom Cruise

At the beginning of the week, a new trailer for the Top Gun: Maverick sequel starring Tom Cruise appeared online . A few days later, the Paramount Pictures film studio published a very interesting video that demonstrates the filming process of this "air action movie".

Tom Cruise has repeatedly stated in interviews that the new Top Gun was filmed in the good old way - with real planes and overloads and without CGI. Now everyone can make sure of this.

The decision to shoot aerial scenes in this way was made to increase the realism of what is happening. Tom Cruise noted that it is almost impossible to "play" multiple overloads in the cockpit of a military aircraft if you are sitting in front of a green screen and relying on computer graphics.

Despite the fact that Tom Cruise has a pilot's license (and will even fly his own personal fighter P-51 Mustang in the film), he was not allowed to fly the F / A-18E / F Super Hornet carrier-based fighter.

During the filming, a two-seat modification of the aircraft was used, controlled by a military pilot, but in second place were the actors who experienced real overloads during the performance of aerobatics. By the way, judging by the spy photos, there will be at least one F-14 Tomcat in the picture - this model was used during the filming of the first part in 1986.

To capture all the nuances of the actors' performance and behavior during air battles, a special installation of six IMAX-quality cameras was used, installed in the aircraft cockpit.
