Captain America History
Captain America is a superhero in the Marvel universe, and is one of the most popular superheroes of all time. He has been featured in several movies and TV series.
Captain America was originally created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1944. Simon and Kirby had previously created the character of "Superman" for DC comics two years earlier.
Captain America was one story line away from being cancelled by Timely Comics when he became a huge hit with American soldiers in World War II. Captain America was a symbol of patriotism to help boost the morale of troops who were fighting in Europe at the time.
The popularity of Captain America translated well into comic sales, and though his peak popularity came during wartime, he has remained popular over seven decades later with fans all around the world.
Steve Roger
Captain Americas original name was Steve Rogers, a sickly young man with nearly no chance to join any military program due to his frailty and poor health. He tried out for one such program called "Project: Rebirth", and it was there he received the super serum and became Captain America. The super serum added to his small size and increased his muscle mass, as well as adding a side effect of making him appear younger than before the project.
Captain America is also known for being an anti-Nazi symbol during WWII as most created comic book characters took on names that were far more generic and non descript. A title such as "Superman" or "Bat Man" didn't really make much sense when you had real people in real life fighting against real Nazis. But Captain America's name made perfect sense with the war going on around them--and still does today, even if we aren't at war with anybody these days (that I know of).
Marvel Captain America Series
Captain America has been published in several different series' over the years, but is most known for being a part of Marvel Comics ' Avengers series. He even had his own animated TV show on ABC in 1967 that ran for two seasons.
As with all Marvel superhero characters, Captain America's popularity exploded when he was featured in various movies such as "The Incredible Hulk", "Iron Man 2" and more recently "Captain America: The First Avenger". Though some purists might argue that this movie should have been called "The Falcon", because it seems to be just as much about him as Captain America himself.
In my opinion, there can never be too many great superheroes around at one time. All superheroes bring something unique to the table, and I'm not just talking about their powers. Superman is a great hero because he's always been positive and upbeat no matter what crisis or foe he squares off with, Batman can be dark and brooding to make for an awesome story slate--and Captain America is there simply because of who Steve Rogers truly is.
Captain America has never really let his country down in any way; while other heroes might have at least one major screw up under their belt (sometimes several), Captain America has never had one, nor ever will. And that makes him much more real to me than somebody like Wolverine who seems to go out of his way just to kill anybody he comes across--or even Spiderman who spends most of his time complaining about his personal life with MJ or whoever else is closest to him at the time.
Captain America stands tall above these other superheroes because he has never let anybody down and always seems to be a truly solid, trustworthy individual who anyone would want on their side in any fight--whether it be real or fictional. And that's why Captain America will live forever--and why even though I know I'll miss my good buddy Steve Rogers when he eventually meets his maker, there will always be another person who takes over for him whenever the need arises.
